Today was an incredibly beautiful spring day for us here in the Okanagan Valley. With blue skies and temperatures finally hitting seasonal norms it was the perfect time to get outside. After lathering the little one up with sunscreen, strapping him into his carrier with his ballcap on his head, and grabbing my giant glass of flavored water, it was time to start exploring.

Now, if you were to ask anyone that knows me well they would tell you just how much water I consume on a regular basis.

Not only do I find it especially refreshing and one of the only beverages that will successfully quench my thirst, but there are some amazing health benefits to regularly drinking water too.

Regularly drinking water has proven to:

Relieve Fatigue

As mamas, it is no secret that we often feel tired. But did you know that aside from a lack of sleep and chasing little ones around all day long that one of the main reasons we feel so fatigued is due to mild dehydration? When you don’t drink enough water you cause your heart, major organs, and muscles to work harder than necessary (and not as well). No wonder our bodies can get so tired so quickly!

Improve the look of Skin

If you think about how a lack of water can cause the cells in your muscles to shrink imagine applying that principle to your skin. Not drinking enough water can actually increase the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. When you properly hydrate you increase blood flow which helps improve elasticity and tissue replenishment.

Assist in Weight Loss

While water itself might not actually cause you to lose weight, it certainly acts as an aid to the process. Drinking a large cup of water before each meal can help you feel less hungry and even make you feel full faster. Also, remember when I mentioned not drinking enough water makes your body work harder? Well, drinking enough water helps your body to work faster and more efficiently at breaking down fat cells.

Improve the overall function of the body

Our bodily is primarily made up of water and uses water to perform a variety of functions. Adequate water intake helps improve digestion and prevents constipation, increases blood circulation, aids in the flushing of toxins from your body, and even helps regulate your body temperature.

If I haven’t quite sold you on why you should be drinking more water hopefully, this simple and refreshing Raspberry Lemon Flavored Water will do the trick.

Fruit Flavored Water

We are so fortunate to have the amount of fresh local produce available to us here in the Okanagan. Each weekend my family and I head to the farmer’s market to do as much of our grocery shopping as possible before heading out on one of our weekend hiking adventures.

Even though raspberries and strawberries aren’t in season just yet, the weather today had me daydreaming about the summer months to come!

    • Getting a fun water bottle, as silly as it sounds, definitely helps as well. Especially if it is easy to carry and drink from. I started out with infusing sparkling water with fruit and the occasional herb (like mint) and I haven’t looked back since!

This sounds so yummy! I’ve never tried making flavored water before. I might just have to now!

    • You should! It is so simple and makes your water taste so delicious without all the added sugar of juice or vitamin waters. You can try adding some mint leaves as well!
